CHALLENGE
To tell, enhance and promote “Barocco. Il Gran Teatro delle Idee”, the twenty-first Grande Mostra by Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì at the Museo Civico San Domenico in Forlì, reaching the widest possible audience.
OUR APPROACH
To communicate, in an original and inclusive way, how the Baroque captures the cultural ferment of an entire era — from the debate of ideas that generated it, to the decisive role of patronage and the spectacularisation of power — through original content designed to engage a broad, popular audience nationwide.
THE GRAND THEATRE OF IDEAS
“Barocco. Il Gran Teatro delle Idee” is the twenty-first Grande Mostra staged at the Musei San Domenico, and for us the eighth year of collaboration with Fondazione Cassa dei Risparmi di Forlì. A stimulating project that starts from an essential and substantial research phase, exploring the curators’ choices about the exhibition path, and that calls for alternative, creative ways to bring the beauty, theatricality and visual richness of Baroque art onto digital channels — making the exhibition known to an ever wider and more varied audience.
The organic content strategy turned social channels into an interactive stage combining cultural storytelling, emotional engagement and service information. Through posts and photo carousels focused on the details of the masterpieces on show — from Caravaggio, Cagnacci and Gaulli through to contemporary offshoots with Fontana and Leoncillo — the storytelling revealed the iconography and genesis of the works, supported by in-depth videos and reels in which curators and official guides led the audience through the rooms. Considerable emphasis went to activations and strategic PR, including the “Barocco Bus” initiative with Start Romagna, the ambassador call to involve local creators, and the renewed collaboration with sector creator Roberto Celestri. The narrative built a strong empathetic bond with the community through the listening feature “Le vostre parole” and the integration of well-known music tracks, while supporting the launch of creative family workshops and special events such as the “European Night of Museums”, enriched by a themed mixology experience.
PAID STRATEGY
The paid media strategy across the main digital channels covered the entire conversion funnel of the exhibition.
In the pre-sales phase the Open Ticket was positioned as the perfect Christmas gift: an early-bird promotion running until 6 January brought conversions forward.
At opening, segmentation made it possible to reach different audience clusters: dedicated campaigns pushed the benefits of the Open Ticket and the “skip the line” option, while others promoted reduced student rates. Guided tours for groups and open-attendance visits were promoted as well.
Video and carousel formats amplified the visual impact and theatricality of the artworks.
EMPTY MUSEUM EXPERIENCE
To maximise digital resonance and build an active, highly engaged community around the event, the strategy included a recruiting campaign to find the exhibition’s official Ambassadors. The goal was to reach art lovers, creators and authentic local voices able to become first-hand champions of the cultural project. Selected profiles were given the “Empty Museum Experience”: an exclusive behind-closed-doors guided tour held on Friday 20 February, a few hours before the official opening. This absolute preview generated strong pre-opening hype and produced original, spontaneous content, turning participants into the first enthusiastic storytellers of the “Gran Teatro delle Idee”.
